Most of the information on bristolstreets.co.uk is shown using markers on the map. Unlike many other sites, Bristolstreets.co.uk starts with the map and not with a list. Clicking a marker shows information on the marker and often shows additional information in the side bar.
Clicking on the markers opens a window with information about the thing or place that the marker represents.
Thousands of markers already exist and represent all sorts of different things on the map. Different types of markers are displayed when you choose the various map layers in the side bar.
There are also temporary markers which are created when you click the map in a location where there are no markers shown.
All of the different markers (including the temporary ones) work in very similar ways:
When you click the map rather than on an existing marker it opens a new "temporary" marker. Temporary markers can be used for many different tasks.
The first use for temporary markers is to show which bus routes stop near the temporary marker. A list of routes is shown in the information window of the marker. Clicking on the route numbers shows the routes on the map. Clicking the origin or destination names will show the nearest stop going in that direction.
Since temporary markers are added to your history list and my stuff list, it can be helpful if you name the marker by typing a name into the blank at the top.
Naming a marker is also nice if you are going to email the marker to someone else as the marker name will be included in the link that gets sent.
